good but problematic
User: Mark M, Jan 5, 2010
Pros: Handy, easy to use, and good for working out
Cons: earbuds fall off, and loses signal
The earphones overall are fantastic. They sound great, connect to my bluetooth easily enough and allow for me to workout without any issue. In fact, they are probably the best headset I have ever owned. My blackberry works beautifully with these and I am the envy of all my friends.
However, there are a few minor things I would like to see improved. Outside of the problem with line of sight which is easy to manage, I found myself losing the earbuds as they fall off rather easily. Although they are easy to replace, for what I paid for the headset I should not be experiencing this.
Besides that, for wireless headsets to train, ride, or use casually there is no equal as long as LOS is not an issue to you.

Good sound quality, great for working out
User: Bill Wood, Dec 11, 2008
Pros: Light, good sound, snug fit, good bass and sound balance
Cons: SRS-WOW is on by default and must be turned off whenever you turn the headphones on
I just got the Motorola S9-HD, having previously used the original S9s with the red trim. The S9 came with two sets of ear buds, one smaller set with a large opening to the ear and one larger set with a smaller opening. The larger set fit more snugly in your ear but had excessive bass. The new S9-HD ships with the same large earbuds, but the bass has been tamed and sounds much less boomy. They compare favorably in overall balance to my Grado SR-80s, although obviously not nearly as smooth and open, nor with as good treble response.
For working out or casual listening, the S9-HDs cant be beat. They are snug on your head and unobtrusive. Outdoors, they tend to lose the signal unless your phone is line-of-site to the headset (because the bluetooth signal has nothing to reflect off of), but this seems to have improved over the original S9 although I havent been able to test them enough outdoors yet to say definitively.
These work well as a phone headset, the sound is now present in both ears (the original S9s only worked in the left ear for phone calls).
Im not giving them 5 stars because, while theyve improved significantly over the original S9 in sound quality, they are still not audiophile quality (although its possible the Bluetooth stereo compression scheme used by my Verizon Blackberry Pearl 8130 is at a low bitrate and is reducing quality). Also, they default to SRS-WOW turned on, which sucks - SRS-WOW distorts the sound and makes the bass out of phase. Be sure to turn this off by pressing and holding the "next track" () button for several seconds.

Good for music as long as you stay indoors
User: His Majesty Genghis, Jun 5, 2009
Pros: Excellent sound quality for music and movie purposes
Cons: Worthless outdoors because of the constant audio drop
The design of the S9-HD is an improvement of its predecessor (the S9), because (so far) the issue of moisture corrupting the controls and rendering them inoperable has been resolved. The S9 also required too light a touch to forward the track to increase/decrease the volume. With the S9-HD, you actually have to push the buttons to receive the desired effect.
The stereo sound is great on the S9-HD when listening to music and to me, the voice sounded ok as well (Ive listened to voice messages Ive left to test the sound of my voice on the receiving end). By the way, phone calls are also in stereo. However, most people Ive spoken to say the sound is muffled.
The level of excellence of this unit while indoors and in the car, is matched only by its worthlessness when outdoors due to the constant breaks in the audio. This occurs during MP3 use, radio use, and during calls. This was a problem with the S9 as well. And no combination of where you hold the unit or how far away from the headset you keep the unit solves the issue, as has been suggested in many forums. You may receive clear continuous sound when you are standing completely still, but you cannot walk, or even exercise while seated, when using this unit outdoors.
This is a pretty ridiculous flaw for an item that is intended for music and telephone calls. Motorola is aware of this defect but continues to list the S9-HD sale on its official website.

Not as good as it should be
User: Bob Browning, Nov 10, 2010
Pros: cordless stereo
Cons: doesnt work sometimes, gives echo to person you called
I bought this to use with my MOTO DROID. Frequently, people I call tell me they have a very annoying echo of their speech, though I dont hear that nor do I have an echo. This doesnt happen with another single ear blue tooth ear bud I have. Sometimes the buttons act like you didnt press them. Other consistent irritating issues, which could be the phone and not the headphones are just after a call is made, either by voice command or manually via the phones touch screen, the phone starts to use the headphones, then drops that connection, and you have to manually engage the headset. This is terrible if one if driving, and I just hang up rather than fumble with the phone.
Listening to music is wonderful. If you get a call when listening to music, it is a simple thing to just hit the answer button on the headphones and the music is muted while you carry on your conversation.
If you can try before you buy, Id recommend doing that. I havent tried any other stereo bluetooth headphones, but trying several before buying could reward you with a product that doesnt have this ones downsides.

The Idea Of Wireless Headphones Sounds Good, Until You Actually Hear Them
User: Nathan Daniels, Jul 11, 2009
Pros: Lightweight, comfortable, decent battery life
Cons: Battery is not replaceable, audio is worse than Apples included headphones
I bought these to use with my iPhone 3G after the 3.0 software release. I assumed the "HD" meant that the audio quality would be good. Its not. If youre wondering what these sound like, just imagine re-encoding all of your music at 64 kbps MP3. Really, its that bad. For podcasts, movies, or TV shows, Im sure these sound fine. But for music, they sound pretty darn bad. You know how most people think the included Apple earbuds have poor sound quality? I was hoping these would sound at least as good as the Apple ones (you know, because theyre three times as expensive) but the Apple ones have better sound. Im pretty sure the sound quality problem is in the wireless transmission, and not the little speakers. Ive read some about how A2DP works, and it should be possible to get better quality audio to transfer. Im not sure if its a limitation of the iPhone 3G or the S9-HD, but for anyone who cares about audio quality at all, these two devices do not sound good together.

Poor Quality & Customer Service - Buyer Beware!
User: Dwight Linden, Jul 28, 2009
Pros: Great sound when they actually worked
Cons: You cant sweat in them! Terrible customer support!
After the first use my headset went bad - sound/button problem because I used them while sweating. I used them when working out and like so many complaints I found after doing a google search, only the volume down button worked. Plus, my charge was only lasting 1 hour. I tried using the headphones a few more times but it is pretty pointless to use them when the sounds is so low that you need complete silence all around you to hear anything.
I tried using mine in the gym and when bicycling.
Evidently, you cant let any sweat get on the headphones, or the buttons go bad. Even though the box says these are sweat-resistant and they have a David Beckham limited edition, which is targeted at sports-minded people, these things dont stand up to even mild sweat!! Do a google search to see how many complaints there are about these headphones. This sweat problem has been around since the S9 and the problem is still not fixed in the S9-HD version! Dont they field-test these things or dont they care about quality control at the factory in China where these are produced??? Plus, see the YouTube video which shows one recommended work-around by spraying the headphones with hairspray before using, in order to creat a type of protective sealant against any form of perspiration.
Additionally, Motorola support is pretty useless. After making it through the voice-activated call-screening system I received "help" from a tech who really didnt seem very keen in helping me. My problem is that I bought my headsets when back home in the US, but I live and work overseas. Motorola, for being an international company, does not provide INTERNATIONAL support!!!! When I repeatedly asked to speak with his supervisor, he refused and said they have no supervisors available. After the 5th request to speak with a supervisor I gave up on that idea. He finally relented from my insistence and told me that they will ship me a replacement product to a relatives address in the US (great... now I have to wait until December to have my second pair break within a few days!!).
I will repeat the refrain of so many others. DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT and avoid the hassles of dealing with poor product quality and poor support.
By the way, in my google search I came across so many complaints of people replacing these headphones between 3 and 13(!!!!) times!!!!
